PENNY MERICLE, D.M.D., M.S.D.
No one loves a nice smile more than Dr. Penny Mericle. She’s lived in Wyoming Valley her whole life and has spent the past 23 years creating sparkling smiles. She takes time with each patient to make sure they get the attention and results they deserve. She graduated from Meyers High School, received a B.S. in Pharmacy and a D.M.D. degree in dentistry from Temple University and a M.S.D. in orthodontics from St Louis University. She was elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon-the national dental honor society and the Pierre Fauchard Society. Dr. Mericle has done research in microbiology, biochemistry and orthodontics and has several published papers. Dr. Mericle is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) and has sat on a committee to review the Surgeon General’s report. She is a member of the American Dental Association (ADA) and has served on the New Dentist Committee in Chicago. She has been the president of the Luzerne County Dental Society, as well as dental health chairman, vice-president, and a board member. Additionally, she has served as treasurer of the third district dental society. Dr. Mericle started the brace place in 1987 in Wilkes-Barre, PA. In 2002 the office expanded & moved to its current location in Forty Fort, PA.
SAMANTHA R. ABOD, D.M.D., M.M.P.H.
Samantha R. Abod D.M.D., MMPH, aka “Dr. Sam” is a hometown girl from Harvey’s Lake who is happy to be back in Northeastern Pennsylvania following her education at the University of Pittsburgh. Since 2008, Dr. Sam brings an air of excitement and a fun-loving attitude to creating brace place smiles. She is a graduate of Gate of Heaven Grade School and Bishop O’Reilly High School. She earned her D.M.D. from the University of Pittsburgh where she studied biochemistry and also earned a Certificate in Orthodontics and Masters in Public Health. Dr. Sam is also a specialist in clear orthodontic aligner technology like Invisalign and Clear Correct.Dr. Sam was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon honor society and received awards from the International College of Dentists, Kay F. Thompson Academic Scholarship, Ruth Freedman Academic Scholarship, T-35 Short Term Dental Research Training Scholarship, and national award recognition for co-creating Crest Healthy Smiles outreach projects and Give Kids a Smile Day. Dr. Sam served as the vice-president of the student chapters of the Hispanic Dental Association and Secretary of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Currently, she is a member of the AAO, ADA, PDA and she is an executive board member of the Luzerne County Dental Society. Dr. Sam truly appreciates the value of community service and has completed a medical mission to Guanaja, Honduras and continues to help local people through the Pennsylvania chapters of the Volunteers in Medicine and the Care and Concern dental clinics.
